Observers speak of a humanitarian crisis, while the recent decision for this year’s presidential elections to be brought forward to the 22nd April are seen by many critics as one more sign of President Maduro becoming increasingly autocratic.

Latin America 2018: Elections Overview

Costa Rica has already been to the polls for the first round of its presidential elections. Over the course of the year, a total of 420 million people will be called to the polls in nine countries of Latin America, with presidential elections taking place in Paraguay, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela, as well as Costa Rica. By the end of 2018, a very different political landscape could have emerged across the region. This event will be an opportunity to dissect the overall picture and identify the main players and key issues that will shape the 2018 election season in Latin America.
