Canning House is delighted to welcome the UK Ambassadors to Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Cuba to take part in a closed-doors round-table briefing. HE Thomas Carter, HE Carolyn Davidson, HE Bernhard Garside and HE Anthony Stokes will present the latest political, economic and business updates from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Cuba respectively.
Thomas Carter was appointed British Ambassador to Guatemala in 2015. Mr Carter joined the FCO in 1976 and most recently was responsible for the FCO’s global consular policy. Prior to that he worked on the London 2012 Olympic Games, after completing a four-year posting as joint British High Commissioner to Zambia with his wife, Carolyn Davidson. He has had a variety of previous postings in the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
Carolyn Davidson was appointed British Ambassador (non-resident) to Honduras in 2015. Ms Davidson joined the FCO in 1986 and has served in Tokyo, Brussels, Bonn, Bangkok and Bratislava. She was joint British High Commissioner to Zambia, with her husband Tom Carter, from 2008 to 2012 and has most recently led work on international energy issues in the FCO.
Bernhard Garside took his appointment as British Ambassador to El Salvador in 2015. Mr Garside is a career diplomat who joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1983. Bernhard has had postings in Muscat (Oman), Dubai (UAE), Lagos (Nigeria), Havana (Cuba), Amsterdam (The Netherlands), and Khartoum (Sudan). His most recent posting was as Deputy Head of Mission in Algiers, Algeria.
Antony Stokes has been Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba since October 2016. Previously he served as Ambassador-at-Large for Climate, and from 2010-2014 as Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Mr Stokes has also worked in managerial roles in the private sector.
