29/07/2021 - Castillo inaugurated without cabinet in Peru

The swearing-in of Pedro Castillo as Peru’s new president on 28 July was different to other inaugurations in one important respect: he did not, as is customary, announce his new ministerial team. Instead, Castillo said he would name his new prime minister on 29 July and appoint the wider ministerial team on 30 July. For some, this small delay could be a first sign of trouble ahead.
