Women Transforming Economics in Latin America

  • March

Canning House will be welcoming Marcela Chapa and Manuel Maldonado to discuss the Strategic Economics Alliance (SEA).

The Strategic Economics Alliance (SEA) is part of University College London’s (UCL) Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose. It aims to bridge the gap between new economic theory and real-world practice by creating spaces for bidirectional learning between economists, policymakers, and practitioners. SEA is about bringing a “new sea of voices” focused on amplifying the voices of women economists from the Global South, ensuring that economic policymaking is shaped by grounded expertise, new theories of development and growth, and attention to lived experiences. Our two speakers will discuss how female economists can change economic thinking in Latin America to help create more effective economic practices.
