Trade Policy in the Americas

What does Trump's overhaul of Nafta mean for US-Mexico trade relations?

Is the deal a good one for Mexico?

What are the chances that the agreement will last in the long term?

Gunther Baumgarten, from LatinNews, will give an overview of the bilateral deal reached by the Mexican and US governments.

His presentation will also look at the state of the negotiations to include Canada in the bilateral Nafta deal and analyse the potential impact that failure to include Canada in the bilateral Nafta deal could have for Mexico.

Finally, Gunther will give an overview of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). What is the current state of the trade treaty and comparison with Nafta? Can the CPTPP truly make up for the loss of unfettered market access to the US?
