Canning House welcome an expert panel to provide an update on Guyana, as the country’s hotly contested 2020 general election sets the stage ahead of a potentially major economic transformation.

Update on Guyana

Guyana’s 2020 general election has illustrated the country’s increasingly contested political landscape. Against a background of significant offshore oil reserve discoveries in 2015, ongoing uncertainty over Guyana's democratic process leaves the stage unset for the country's potentially major economic transformation.

Canning House are pleased to bring together a panel to update our audience on Guyanese current affairs. We will hear how the country’s politics reached this point of tension, how the equivalent of billions of barrels of offshore oil could affect its economy in the coming years, and what this all means for Guyana’s government and society.

Speakers:

H.E. High Commissioner Greg Quinn

British High Commissioner for Guyana

Jonathan Farmer

Canning House Associate Fellow & Editor of the Latin American Weekly Report, LatinNews

Melinda Janki

International Lawyer
