CANNING HOUSE BUSINESS BREAKFAST
The UK, CPTPP, and Latin America: What now?
with GRAHAM ZEBEDEE
Chief Negotiator for UK accession to CPTPP at the DBT
The United Kingdom has joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. The free trade bloc of now-12 countries comprises around 15% of global GDP. The UK is its first non-founder, and first European member, with the other signatories including Japan, Canada, Australia, Vietnam, Malaysia and - in Latin America - Mexico, Chile and Peru. Also looking to join the agreement, with applications currently in progress, are Costa Rica, Ecuador and Uruguay, plus others including China and Taiwan.
In the first of a new series of Canning House Business Breakfasts, we welcome Graham Zebedee, Chief Negotiator for UK accession to CPTPP at the Department for Business and Trade to discuss the UK's joining process, how CPTPP benefits UK business, and expectations for current and future Latin American members.
