Latin America faces a challenge to boost competitiveness by addressing the region’s productivity gap. But with every challenge comes an opportunity. Supporting a transition towards higher productivity levels, which in part requires strengthening the region’s skills, will be key to the region’s prosperity and well-being. This public event will highlight the skills shortage in Latin America and discuss practical ways in which skills can be strengthened, with case studies being highlighted.
Canning House is delighted to welcome Professor Helen Rainbird, Emeritus Professor of Human Resource Management, University of Birmingham, who will be chairing the event; Professor Francesco Caselli, Norman Sosnow Professor of Economics, London School of Economics, who will give an overview of the skills gap in Latin America; Ruth Lowbridge MBE, Executive Director, Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative, who will be addressing the need for intermediate skills & the specific learning, development and support needs of SMEs; Praneet Shivaprasad, International Manager, Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), who will be giving practical examples of solutions to address the skills gap that have worked in Mexico and Colombia; and Malcolm Trotter, Chief Executive, International Association of Bookkeepers, who will give further examples of solutions to address the skills gap that have worked in Latin America.
