Galvanising Change: Unlocking Latin America's Copper Potential
- Anglo American, 17 Charterhouse Street, London EC1N 6RA
- 15:30-17:30 GMT + networking reception
As the world races towards Net Zero, the role of copper mining - especially in Latin America - has become increasingly essential for the global energy transition. Copper is a cornerstone for electrification technologies, clean energy solutions, economic development, and next-generation infrastructure. Latin America, home to over 40% of the world's copper production, is poised to meet surging global demands. According to the International Copper Association, global refined copper demand is set to double by 2050 relative to 2020 levels, with S&P Global forecasting a significant shortfall of 1.6 million tonnes by 2035. This projected supply gap underscores Latin America’s pivotal role in providing copper for the transition to a low-carbon global economy.
The Galvanising Change conference - organised by Canning House in partnership with Anglo American, the latest edition of their long-standing annual mining conference - will convene industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to examine the opportunities and challenges facing Latin America’s copper mining sector. The event will explore strategic approaches for unlocking the region's copper potential amidst rising demand, evolving regulatory landscapes, and advancements in mining technology.
