Impact of Mining on Environmental and Human Rights in Espinar, Peru
The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Peru, the Peru Support Group, CAFOD and Canning House present a briefing on the impact of mining on environmental and human rights in Espinar, Peru, delivered by Esmeralda Larota and Karem Luque, human rights defenders from Espinar itself.
This meeting offers an opportunity for attendees to learn about the human rights and environmental impacts of unchecked mining activities on communities impacted by the operations of the Tintaya-Antapaccay-Coroccohuayco mine, owned by Anglo-Swiss company Glencore. Esmeralda Larota and Karem Luque’s visit to the United Kingdom is part of a wider international campaign, making the case to the UK and European Union for the adoption of due diligence legislation to prevent companies from committing human rights abuses and environmental damage through operations abroad.
Following the briefing, there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
