The Bolivian Referendum 2016 - Voting on Evo Morales

  • SCI Belgrave Square, 14/15 Belgrave Square, London

A constitutional referendum was held in Bolivia on 21 February 2016.

A constitutional referendum was held in Bolivia on 21 February 2016. The proposed constitutional amendments which were to remove presidential term limits, allowing President Evo Morales and Vice President Álvaro García Linera to run for another term in office in 2019, were voted against. Article 168 of the constitution therefore remains, which allows these officeholders to put themselves forward for re-election only once.

Results show that the referendum was voted down by a 51% majority.

Canning House is delighted to welcome the following speaker: Dr John Crabtree, Research Associate at the Latin American Centre, University of Oxford, and author of Bolivia: Processes of Change; the Ambassador of Bolivia, HE Roberto Calzadilla Sarmiento, will also present some remarks.

Registration is from 18.15 for an 18.30 start.
