Latin American migration in the age of Covid-19

The January 2019 Canning House report on migration highlighted both an increasing trend in migration from the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and a shift in the dynamics behind this outmigration. However, the willingness of many of the main receiving countries to continue to absorb large numbers of migrants has been eroding in recent years, and tightening of immigration policy seems likely to intensify as the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic become increasingly apparent and the main receiving countries struggle to protect health and jobs.
