Remittances

with Christopher Garnett

According to World Bank data, personal remittances - the transfer of funds from a person living and working abroad to individuals, often family members, in their home country - comprised over 20% of GDP in some Latin American economies in 2019. In 2020, however, the economic damage and uncertainty wreaked by the Covid-19 pandemic put a significant bottleneck on these flows.

In this edition of Canning Conversations, Christopher Garnett, Principal of ChuteCourt Asesores, discusses what this means for affected people and economies, and gets insights on the logistics behind remittances with a panel of experts.
